Melvin Jones Lions Eye Hospital A dream come true

A small piece of land was allotted in 1986 to Lions Club of Cuttack by the Government. Preliminary work was started by the then Lion Leadres of foundation work could be completed by 1993.

In 1993-94, it was decided to from a trust to look after the construction & management of the Hospital. In 1998 Ground floor was completed & OPD facilities started for General Public.

Within a year, cataract operations were also started. Initially it was all free.

Soon thereafter, with the help and assistance of lion members, their family and friends, equipments like Phaco machine, microscopes, Auto-refractometer etc. were acquired & thereafter there was no looking back.

In the meantime, progress in completion of 1st and 2nd floor were completed, lift was installed, buses for transport of camp patients were acquired & all those activities gain momentum to the Hospital activities.

Our main aim to provide free treatment and cataract operation facilities to the needy & poor public of nearby District in in-suspended animation for last two years due to revised guideline of the State Government. Hope it will be over in a month or two & we shall be again able serve the poor & needy.

However we are maintaining our finances in steady way & inflow of paid patients is healthy & regular.

We wish to turn our hospital in a full of ideal Eye care unit. Starting of Diabetic, retinopathy is a challenge for future & we are determined to achieve it. I congratulate all the Lion friends their family & friends for their helping hand and cooperation in making this Hospital a pride for Lions Odisha.
